Is it over yet? Actually, despite wanting to decompress from the holiday hustle & shuffle, do we REALLY want it to be over? There's something magical about the holiday season; Black, White, Jew or Gentile, it's just in the air. It starts the weekend before Thanksgiving and it just grows, like the buildup in a Miami nightclub song. It seems to "peak" shortly after Christmas dinner, but then you realize it's just getting started. As we fly home from visiting my in-laws, it hits me that we have to "do" Christmas with my family, then our close friends. Then we have New Year's Eve to figure out what to do. (I just put that in there for some added drama, we are having a party at our restaurant, Kapow)
The whole point of this random post from row 29 on AA flight 1511, is that I LOVE the Holidays! It's a time of reflection amidst all the "chaos" of shopping, planning, cooking, flying and cleaning. It's a time to cherish ALL our relationships, no, it's actually a time to CELEBRATE them. As we grow older, our "wants" change drastically (Mine have at least). What was important to me just 5 short years ago, doesn't even show up on my radar. Spending time with the people that matter the most brings the biggest smile to my face. Spending time eating, drinking, joking, and telling stories even though you've heard them a hundred times... these are a few of my favorite things.
So in all the awkwardness and randomness of this post, I am grateful for everything in my life. From my family to my wife to my job(s), they are all cherished. I hope we can all take a few minutes amidst the craziness and take a deep breath to cherish these moments and reflect on each one of these moments from 2013 that made your day. 2014 is just around the corner and don't stress on resolutions and drastic life-changes. We all need a good life change from time to time, but live in the NOW and be the very best you can be. Wake up and honor the universe, honor yourself and honor the cherished things in your life. Simply be better than you were yesterday. So when you take a second to peek back, you've done all you can do.
Yesterday is History, Tomorrow a Mystery, Today is a Gift, Thats why it's called the Present!
